Minnesota Twins Team Info

The Twins are near an all-time high in popularity due to the team’s five consecutive winning seasons. The first half of the decade has witnessed the revival of outstanding professional baseball in the Twin Cities. As the season opens, Twinkie fans look to superstar Torii Hunter’s bat to spark the team’s offensive attack. With the exception of young catcher Joe Mauer, the Twins’ starting lineup is one of the most experienced in the American League and features the baseball wisdom of third baseman Tony Batista, second baseman Luis Castillo, and a number of other veterans. While the team has begun the year in slow fashion, look for the Twins to make some serious noise in the American League Central Division.

With Twins postseason appearances for several years, they have returned to the same kind of baseball that excited fans through the late 1980s and early 1990s. Guided by center fielder Kirby Puckett, the Twins won the World Series in 1987 and 1991, earning the team its first trips to the playoffs since 1970. From 1992 to the year of the millennium, the team built a steady tradition of losing seasons, and this period of struggle caused attencance to Twins home games to dwindle. The recent improvements in the franchise’s record have given Twins fans a renewed sense of faith.
