Washington Nationals Team Info

The Nationals are ready for a strong year, although they finished last in the National League East division in their 2005 season, they still had a better record than many teams in the league. In fact, they beat several attendance records since their time in Washington.

The Nationals starting lineup included new addition outfielder Jose Guillen and first baseman Nick Johnson. Also, Brad Wilkerson and Preston Wilson along with catcher Brian Schneider came onboard to provide the team with the rest of their offense. Polishing up their pitching rotation, the Nationals brought in starting pitchers Livan Hernandez and Esteban Loaiza along with John Patterson, Tony Armas and closer Chad Cordero. With a bullpen lineup this good, the Nationals greatly improved on their losing 67-96 record. In the nationals off-season, they traded Esteban Loaiza, seriously hurting their pitching rotation seeing as how he had provided them with 217 innings in the 2005 season. Although the team has since then acquired two new starting pitchers, neither has as much promise as Loaiza did.

The Nationals also looking to boost their offense, picked up Alfonso Soriano, who shows some real potential. Team veteran Jose Vidro will be joining him in the outfield and newly acquired free agent Marlon Anderson will be picking up second base. Although starting pitchers may be slow, young closer Chad Cordero has established himself as a phenomenal closer and should prove to come through for the Nationals.
