PGA Championship Golf Information

The PGA Championship warrants taking time off work to visit this historic event. The biggest of the big events in the PGA golfing world, the Championship will decide who will carry the Wanamaker Trophy.   The season leading up to this championship has been one of the most competitive and entertaining on record.  The field will be the crème de la crème of the golfing universe. Perennial course burners such as Tiger, Vijay and Phil will control the crowds who have planned ahead by purchasing their PGA spots.

Throughout the years, the PGA Golf Championship competition has provided some of the highest levels of competitive golf to be had, and more importantly has distinguished the notables of the game from the historically elite.  One player of such status is Walter Hagen of the U.S.  Hagen owned the Championship in the mid 1920's, winning an unmatched four straight years (1924-1927).  This feat has not come close to being repeated since and in the minds of most respected golf experts, never will be.

Without question one of the greatest to play the game of golf is Jack Nicklaus.  Nicklaus won five total PGA championships during his colossal career.  As if this record was not enough, the five wins came in three different decades, the first of which in 1963 at the Dallas Athletic Club and ended up in 1980 at the famous Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, NY.  Nicklaus was able through his accomplishments on the course to set a bar high enough in his sport that generations from now, golfers will still be reaching to put their mark as near to "The Golden Bear" as possible.  In the group of 150 on the links this year, perhaps there is one that will be able to set their name above Jack as the greatest that ever played the game of golf.
